I have the suspicion Saxon could have been bigger if they’d had better production. Good lyrics, good riffs, workmanly playing, good solos, but occasionally could have done with an edit or a punching up.

Yeah they self-produced or had a hand in producing most of the albu ms in their glory years, so you probably have a point there.

They do hold the record for most cliches in an 80s hair metal video though :

Saw them open for Judas Priest last year and they KILLED it.  One of the most under-appreciated metal bands of their era, which is a damn shame.
